Music

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.  - Colossians 3:16

Here at All Souls we believe that music is more than a performance art. For many of us, music is a means of prayer, worship, and spiritual encouragement—whether we are singing, playing, or listening.

Our 11 am service on Sundays is full of music, including the hymns, psalms, acclamations and prayers that are shared by all the people as well as special offerings by our choir and other musicians. Additional musicians are often added to help celebrate special holidays, especially Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, and the Feast of All Saints and All Souls.

Our choir includes both volunteer and staff singers and generally totals 20-24 singers. While our volunteer singers are of mixed ability, all members of our choir need to be experienced singers who can sight read well as we handle a large volume of music with a relatively small amount of rehearsal time. If you are interested in singing with our choir, please reach out to our Director of Music to arrange a time to meet and vocalize to see if we would be a good fit for you!

Director of Music

Tom Andrew has served as a church musician for well over 40 years. Beginning in high school, Tom has served Episcopal, Presbyterian, and United Methodist churches. He developed a deep appreciation of how Liturgy, Hymnody, and Music are most effective when they work together as a seamless whole. Tom has a degree in Music and Organ Performance from Wake Forest University.

In his spare time, Tom can often be found on a golf course, or officiating high school football games. Tom, his wife Judy, and son Teddy live in Rockville, Maryland.
